#Reflections: Give me some Hushai!
David fled from Jerusalem, his son Absalom had rebelled.
David grieved. His son’s insubordination was unbearable, he wept. At Mount Olives, he met Hushai.
Hushai was to go into exile with him but David had another plan. Though he was weeping, he was still thinking. He told him to return to Jerusalem and join Absalom’s team. It sounded ridiculous.
Hushai obeyed. He went back to Jerusalem.
When Absalom saw him, he was skeptical. Hushai allayed his fears, ‘my loyalty is to the king of Israel, not to a man.’ Nice line. Very eloquent dude. He was convincing. Absalom welcomed him and in no time they started hobnobbing. He warmed his way into the system, he climbed up to a position of influence.
In due time, Hushai proposed a plan, Absalom loved it.
Immediately, Hushai sent instructions to David. It was simple, ‘cross to the east side of the Jordan River. Trust David, he acted accordingly.
And David got the throne back!
Give me some Hushai!
A double agent, a counter spy. Loyal to David but counselor in Absalom’s court. He is quick. He is smart. He is a gift of brotherhood.
An insider, a loyalist to the core who is heaven-sent for your next move. An angel in disguise who would stay reliable to the end. Some confederate. A dead ringer. A conspirator. An abettor whose physical presence is with the enemy but his heart and soul is with you.
The thing about Hushais is that they look like they are for the enemy. Don’t get it twisted. That they tell you straight from the shoulder is not indicative that they are against you. When you feel they are hobnobbing with your adversary, they are only gathering more information to keep you ahead. If you think they are fraternizing with your foe, they are helping you strategize your next move.
While he is publicly showing support for the adversary, he’s got your back 110%. He may be providing advisory service to the enemy but never doubt, you are his first priority. He may be wining and dining with your competition but he is gunning for your return to the throne.
Come on, don’t be sad when everyone does not join you into exile. Don’t sulk when one stays back and hangs out with ‘Absalom.’ It is all for your good. If everyone runs away with you, who takes care of the next line of action?
You need some Hushai!
Heaven-sent man or woman whose grand ambition is to see your succeed. A best bib and tucker crafted for you for such a time as this. They are not looking for beauty and glory, they are just plain excited seeing you shine. Life’s journey can be tough and challenging, so God places some Hushais along the way telling you, ‘Keep your hair on, baby, I gat this!’ They are strategically positioned and they are unassuming. They could be prominent persons, they could also be nameless. Their status or pedigree is not the prerequisite for their use. The assignment they carry is their mojo.
Your Hushai could be Rebecca being right there when Papa was hungry and itching to bless. Don’t beef her! Your Hushai could be Pharaoh’s cup bearers dining and wining with the king while you grieve in prison. Don’t be bitter! Your Hushai could be Okoye in your Black Panther. Don’t be offended!
Some insider in the camp of the enemy who is fully representing your interest. Some man or woman at the executive board who would put two words in your favour. Some sister or brother who would help the lady choose you. Some stranger who wields so much influence that the contract will be given to you.
You need some Hushai.
Say with me: Lord, Give Me Some Hushai!
Amen!
