Meet my new fine young friend.
As I entered the salon this morning for a shave I saw this fine young man, 83ish, having a shave too. His golden afro was what fascinated me at first until I looked behind him and I saw another fine young woman, 80ish.
I couldn’t hold it, I asked, “Is he your husband?” And she answered in the affirmative.
“Wow, you followed him to the salon for a cut. Amazing.”
She beamed a captivating smile. “Yes. We follow ourselves everywhere.”
And that was how I made myself new friends. We chatted away from there. The salon took on a brighter color as grandma teased and laughed with us about how she wanted her husband’s hair done. She was coordinating the barber and giving instructions. And the young man was just smiling through the process. I was awed by the joy these two shared.
She told me how he had the same beard I had/have on but she insisted it had to be shaved off. “He needs to start behaving his age, don’t you think?” She said.
The young man only grinned where he sat.
We talked some more and when we were done I asked to take pictures with them. They gladly obliged me.
I walked Retired Major Giza and his wife to their waiting car. These two simply endeared me. It’s not everyday Providence blesses you with such love burst. We shook hands as I commended their commitment to each other over the years.
Major Giza prayed for me. I went back to the salon to finish my cut.
The conversation this Saturday, 4th May 2019 is on COMMITMENT. I hope to see you there
