CHASE!
Okay, you like each other, you are fond of each other, so you marry, you go out on dates, you do movie nights, you buy stuff, you make sweet love, you make cute babies, you eat, you go to work, you come back, you make more money, you travel, you buy more stuff, you visit friends, you eat, you make some more love, you sleep, you make more babies, you do more hang outs, you watch more movies, and you eat again, you make more money, you sleep, you wake up….and, and that’s all?
As in, that’s all?
For the next 40, 50, 60 freaking years that you hopefully will be husband and wife, that’s all? You really mean, that’s all? Naaaahhhh….God is not that boring!
It has got to be more than that. It has got to be for something better and bigger. It has to be for something bigger than you. I mean, He is an Intentional God. He can’t be so bereft of ideas or creativity as to design this to be a waste. Just to eat and drink? Come on!
For Abraham and Sarah – An epic lesson in sacrifice. He wanted a nation. He needed a people. It was bigger than them.
For Amram and Jochebed, Israel was the goal. Pharaoh would be stubborn. Moses was in the plan. It was bigger than them.
For Jacob and Rachel, Egypt was in the picture, Famine had been predicted. Joseph had to be sent ahead.
For Boaz and Ruth, one of my faves. Naomi had to be pressed to go back home. Then He crafted a beautiful story of unselfish devotion with Ruth, hence redefined love. By that, He created a prototype of the Kinsman Redeemer. It was a bigger plan.
For Aquila and Priscilla, the early church had to be established. Apollos and Paul needed some heavy moral and financial support. Some cool funds were needed. They were designed for such purpose.
For Joseph and Mary, there was a script; you and I were in it. Joseph’s tantrums wouldn’t be strong enough to stop it. Jesus had to be born. Jesus had to die.
They all ate and drank. They all slept and woke up. They all hung out and played. They all took a turn among the cabbages. But, then they still got up and worked the script.
So, the movie nights, the dinners are only what they are – special Interludes and exciting Commercial Breaks. The vacations and getaways are simply relished moments of comic bathos, luscious cruise for any grand tour. There is a bigger plan. There’s an intent. There’s a plot to the movie.
And when you find it, you chase it.
Picnics are cool interludes that make you enjoy the ride. Dinner dates are stylish breaks that make the trip euphoric and blissful. Great businesses make room for legit luxurious living. And baby-making, oh sweet baby-making, that is always a mysterious layer in the assignment.
Your love story has a script. The union is for something bigger. This merger is for a bigger takeover. For He said “One will chase a thousand, and two, ten thousand. And I’m glad He said one will chase a thousand. So even without a second, there’s still a chase.
So, when you are done eating, please dust your bum and chase.
When you are done shaking the sheets without music or responding to the service of Venus, please put on your cloths and chase.
When you are back from touring the world, unpack and get ready to chase some more.
Even if your wallet is like an onion and every time you open it, it makes you cry, beat it and chase.
On days you are full of spirit as a gray squirrel, Chase. On days despondency clings to you like a wet garment, chase.
Be all softness, beautiful and dominant as the sun, chase. Be all blue and the weight in your walk is seen by all, chase.
Whether the economy changes with the rapidity of a kaleidoscope, chase. Or is it as dynamic as the English and Spanish leagues, chase.
After the commercial breaks, Chase!
